US 'strongy condemns' attack against UN group in Mali

WASHINGTON, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- The US strongly condemned an attack Tuesday against the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSA), that killed four Chadian peacekeepers and wounded 15 others.
"We express our condolences to the families of those killed and to the Government of Chad, and wish those wounded a full recovery," said State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki in a statement. "We call on the Government of Mali to immediately investigate the incident and hold those responsible to account." A total of 15 peacekeepers have been killed in Mali including an attack in northern Mali on August 29 that killed nine Chadian peacekeepers.
Psaki reiterated that the US, "remains fully committed to supporting the efforts of MINUSMA to assist Mali in consolidating peace and security gains, advancing national reconciliation, and negotiating a durable peace agreement through the talks scheduled to begin in Algiers later this week."
