Syrian, Russian FMs discuss formulans to end conflict peacefully

AMMAN, Sept 1 (KUNA) -- Syrian and Russian Foreign Minister, Waleed Muallem and Sergei Lavrov respectively, discussed Monday different forumula formulas with the aim of ending the conflict in Syria, which entered its fourth year, politically, official SANA news agency reported.
It added the two top diplomats discussed the situation inside Syria, and reaffirmed that the solution of the conflict, which killed tens of thousands of people, could only be through "political and diplomatic means." Muallem and Lavrov, said SANA, also discussed the "growing terrorist threats" posed by the Islamic State (IS) militants.
The Syrian conflict, which broke out in March 2011, displaced seven million people internally with millions others living in refugee camps in neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, the Syrian foreign ministry said Damascus was ready to cooperate with all "serious regional and international endeavors to fight terrorism within UN Security Council resolution 2170." All parties, including the European Union (EU), should prove they are serious in dealing with terrorism "in a comprehensive manner," said the ministry.
On the other hand, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said opposition gunmen have taken control of a position in Qunaitera area in the occupied Golan Heights.
It said in a statement, received by KUNA in Amman, that clashes near Qutainera crossing were still ongoing between gunmen from the IS and Al-Nusra Front on one side, and between government forces on the other.
SOHR, meanwhile, said government forces were bombarding several areas in the country killing and wounding civilians.
Government troops were also pounding positions of IS in Deir Az-Zor. (end) tk.bs
