KUWAIT, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Science Club (KSC) hosted Sunday a group of students nominated to represent Kuwait in the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) to be held between September 22-29.
The reception ceremony came within the framework of a training program in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to train the students on how to use astronomical equipment and tools to enter the Olympiad, the KSC said in press statement.
The program also included an explanation by the astronomer, Ahmed Magdy Abdulaziz, on the role of the administration in spreading "astronomical scientific awareness among different segments of society and to refine the skills and experience of students in the field of astronomy." In 2010, the Kuwaiti girl student, Dalal Fahad, won the competition bronze medal. In 2012, Zahraa Al-Herz won the 3rd place, competing 20 teams, while Abdulwahad Al-Hajji claimed the bronze medal for Kuwait in the International Earth Science Olympiad in Argentina, 2012.
The idea of the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) had been suggested by several Korean scientists. In 2003, the Korean Earth Science Society (KESS) organized the first Korean Earth Science Olympiad (KESO). (end) mf.tb.ss
