US conducts round of airstrikes against ISIL

WASHINGTON, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- The US military forces have carried out five airstrikes attacking positions of the militant movement, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), deploying fighter jets and remotely-piloted aircraft, around the Mosul Dam.
"The strikes destroyed an ISIL armed vehicle, an ISIL fighting position, ISIL weapons and significantly damaged an ISIL building. All aircraft exited the strike areas safely," said a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
The CENTCOM has now conducted a total of 115 airstrikes across Iraq.
Barrack Obama's administration has indicated that there is yet no full-scale and final strategy to defeat the ISIL, now calling itself "the Islamic state." The ISIL militants have recently expanded their control over vast areas in northeast Syria, western and northwestern Iraq, including Mosul, posing a serious threat to the central government in Baghdad and promoting regional and international calls to prevent the movement from consolidating its self-styled state.
However, Obama has ordered air strikes on ISIL's selected targets vowing to protect American interests in Iraq and the troubled region and has urged the Iraqis to close ranks in the face of the militants, whose influence has alarmingly increased. (end) ak.rk
