NEW YORK, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned on Saturday the Syrian gunmen attacks, detention and restrictions on personnel and positions of the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in Golan Heights. Ban demanded in a statement "unconditional and immediate release" of all the detained UN peacekeepers and called upon all parties to cooperate fully with UNDOF to enable it to operate freely and to ensure full safety and security of its personnel and assets.
Gunmen belonging to Al-Nusra Front held hostage 44 UNDOF personnel and restricted the movement of 84 UNDOF peacekeepers from the Fijian and Philippine contingents earlier this week. (end) mao.gb
