US concerned over reports of Russian aggressions in Ukraine

WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- The US expressed its concern Wednesday over reports that Russia is sending tanks and arms into southeastern Ukraine, separatists shelling a residential area, and heaving fighting near the airport in Donetsk.
"These incursions indicate a Russian-directed counteroffensive is likely underway in Donetsk and Luhansk," said State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki to reporters. "That is of deep concern to us." She also accused Russia of an "unwillingness to tell the truth", referring to the reports that claim its soldiers were found 30 miles into Ukraine.
"Russia is sending its young men into Ukraine, but are not telling them where they're going," she said.
"These are not steps that you take when you are operating in a transparent manner," she asserted.
The US highlighted that it remains engaged with its European partners on the next steps to be taken on the reported developments.
President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry are expected to discuss these issues when they are at NATO next week. (end) ak.sd
