WASHINGTON, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State John Kerry spoke via phone with his Iraqi counterpart late Friday, assuring him of the United States' "strong support for the formation of a new government," and the need for all parties to "work together and avoid preconditions to expedite the formation of a new and inclusive cabinet," the Department of State announced in a statement.
During the call, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari "acknowledged the importance of moving quickly with government formation and also expressed his sincere condolences over the brutal murder of James Foley by ISIL," the statement said.
In turn, Kerry "offered his condolences to Foreign Minister Zebari for the countless Iraqis from all religious and ethnic communities who have fallen victim to ISIL's barbaric attacks." Both leaders "recognized that Iraq is on the front line in the war against ISIL," and that "the international community must stand together to face this threat." (end) ys.tg
