GENEVA, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Antonio Guterres and staffers of his office greeted with a big round of applause Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah as he arrived at the seven-story headquarters of the Agency here on Friday.
This warm reception is a token appreciation for distinguished humanitarian role of Kuwait under His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Guterres said in statement to KUNA following his meeting with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.
Kuwait, as a government and people, offers outstanding contributions to the relief programs of UN Refugee Agency for the displaced people in Syria and other parts of the world, he pointed out.
His Highness the Amir offers to the international community an exemplary vivid portrait of tolerant values of Islam; thanks to his political wisdom Kuwait has become a global humanitarian center for addressing the disasters of the displaced people in Syria and other parts of the world, Guterres affirmed.
He referred to Kuwait hosting of the two sessions of the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria in 2013 and 2014. (pickup previous) ta.gb
