Lawyers support strike across Pakistan against political sit-ins

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- The lawyers of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) are observing a countrywide strike on Thursday against the sit-ins held by the political parties Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) here in Islamabad.
Lawyers in Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan province held rallies and sit-ins in several areas saying that the PTI and PAT campaigns were putting the parliamentary democratic system in peril. The PBC and SCBA urged the PTI chief, Imran Khan to reconsider his call for 'civil disobedience'.
A senior lawyer, Baz Muhammad Kakar told KUNA that "Lawyers stand by Constitution and rule of law," adding that "we will resist any move against the democratic system in the country." Earlier, thousands of PTI and PAT protestors entered the red zone for holding sit-ins outside the parliament close to the diplomatic enclave and other important government offices. (end) sbk.ajs
