Gaza, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Izzuddin Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing, said on Wednesday an Israeli air strike in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip had failed to kill its commander Mohammed Deif.
A spokesman for the Brigades said in a televised statement that Deif is still alive, affirming that the Israel attack missed its target.
But Deif's wife and seven-month-old son were killed in the attack, local media said here.
The spokesman denounced Israeli violation of the ceasefire truce and its brutal atrocities through launching a series of air raids and barbaric bombardment in several areas of the besieged Strip.
"The leaders of the enemy were behind their offices looking at the screens and their intelligence and apparatuses made them believe that the moment of celebration was imminent," the spokesman said, adding: "You have failed and you have missed the target."
He warned of further rocket attacks by the Brigades on Israel's strategic interests, including Ben Gurion airport east of Tel Aviv from early on Thursday morning.
Al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for firing a volley of rockets into several towns and a military base in south Israel earlier this evening. (end) mt.hm
