Iran seeks closer cooperation with Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said on Wednesday her country is ready to work more closely with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for addressing the problems in the Gulf region.
"We believe that dialogue is an effective tool for addressing the regional security problems and the status and role of both Iran and Saudi Arabia in this regard is quite clear," she said at a press conference here.
"Iran has repeatedly stated readiness to cooperate with all countries in the region and beyond to the combat against terrorism since the very beginning.
"Iran has also stated opposition to military intervention in Iraq and the Iraqi leaders have the final say on whether to seek help from others," she added.
Afkham added that her country continues consultations with the neighboring countries on the combat against the menace of terrorism posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIL). (end)   mw.bsr.gb
