Egypt regrets violence, renewed Palestinian-Israeli clashes

CAIRO, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Egypt expressed great regret over the resumption of hostilities in Gaza Strip and renewed clashes and firing between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, guaranteed to increase the human toll and the suffering of the innocent.
A statement by the Foreign Ministry expressed "deep regret" at the breaking of the ceasefire. It meanwhile added that it is maintaining bilateral contacts with both party to restore calm and enable agreement on a lasting truce.
Egypt, sponsor of the talks, urged both sides to engage in the talks responsibly and in a cooperative spirit. That alone is the means to secure a lasting truce and bring calm to both sides as well as meet some of the Palestinians' demands, namely the opening of crossings and reconstruction.(end) asm.wsa
