Militants' attack on Eid day kills 6 in N. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, July 29 (KUNA) -- At least six people were killed in an attack on the house of former provincial minister Bakht Bedar by armed men in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Tuesday, police said.
A senior police officer, Muhammad Bashir, told media that the unknown militants attacked Bedar's house on Eid day in Tarnao area of Lower Dir killing at least six people.
The former minister belonging to political party Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) was not hurt in the attack but six people including Bedar's brother and two police officers were killed.
The dead bodies were moved to the nearby Tehseel Hospital immediately after the attack for forensic examination.
The armed men clad in military uniforms burst into the former minister's house and opened fire. The motive behind the attack was not yet ascertained and police launched a probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, Pakistan is celebrating Eid Al Fitr on Tuesday with religious zeal, fervor and festivity across the country as Central Ruet e Hilal Committee announced that Shawwal moon was sighted. The meeting of the crescent sighting authorities on Monday decided that Eid Al Fitr would be observed across Pakistan on Tuesday. Muslims across the country offered Eid prayers in the mosques and Eidgahs praying for the solidarity of the country and peace. (end) sbk.rk
