Egypt slams targeting of civilians in Gaza

CAIRO, July 29 (KUNA) -- The Egyptian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned on Monday the Israeli shelling on Al-Shate' refugee camp and Al-Shifaa Hospital in Gaza where dozens of Palestinians, including 10 children, were killed.
"Egypt follows up with profound concern the unjustifiable excessive use of force and the targeting of civilians by Israel which claimed the lives of dozens of innocent people, particularly women, children and elderly," the ministry said in a statement.
The statement urged all parties to commit themselves to the rules of the international humanitarian law and the four Geneva conventions, reiterating the call for compliance with the humanitarian ceasefire.
It added that the Egyptian initiative constitutes the only way for protecting the lives of civilians and stopping the bloodshed in Gaza. (end) aff.gb
