WASHINGTON, July 25 (KUNA) -- Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State Marie Harf said on Friday the US is concerned about reports that three US citizens have recently been detained in Iran.
Harf referred in press remarks to the reported detention of "Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, along with the non-US citizen spouse of one of the three." She noted that at this time no further comment can be made "due to privacy considerations." She affirmed "our highest priority is the safety and welfare of U.S. citizens abroad." "In general, in any case involving the detention of a U.S. citizen in Iran, we would work with our protecting power, Switzerland, to request appropriate consular services," she added. The Washington Post had reported that its Iran correspondent, whom is a U.S. citizen, and his wife "appeared to have been detained Tuesday evening." According to the newspaper, two American freelance photojournalists also have been detained. (end) si.gb
