Two foreign aid workers shot dead in W. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, July 24 (KUNA) -- At least two foreign aid workers with an international Christian organization were shot dead in western Herat city of Afghanistan on Thursday, said officials.
The provincial governor of Herat province, Fazlullah Wahidi told the media that two foreign aid workers with an international Christian organization were shot dead in Afghanistan's western city of Herat.
He said, "The two women who were gunned down were working in the health sector for a foreign aid organization in Herat." Two gunmen on a motorbike approached the aid workers' vehicle and opened fire, he said.
The victims' nationalities were not immediately clear. The Afghan Interior Ministry said the two worked for International Assistance Mission, a Christian group that has worked in Afghanistan since 1966.
The attack came at a time when foreign NATO/ISAF forces that have been fighting the Taliban rebels since 2001 are preparing to leave Afghanistan till end of the year. (end) sbk.tg
