Arab League Chief meets Kerry, hopes for ceasefire in Gaza soon

CAIRO, July 22 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Arab expressed hope a ceasefire could be reached in the Gaza Strip to protect Palestinian civilians.
During his meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry, Al-Arabi said discussions on what was happening in Gaza are not enough to achieve a ceasefire.
Al-Arabi hoped for common affirmative action from Kerry and the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to stop the violence in Gaza.
Meanwhile, he expressed thanks to the United States for the USD 47 million of aid to Gaza.
Kerry on his part also hoped during the meeting a ceasefire could be achieved in Gaza.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt's unwavering position on the ceasefire initiative launched by his country to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Any talks over an amendment to the ceasefire initiative is unfounded, he added. (end) mfm.rg.ss
