Kuwaiti skeet shooter wins first place in World Cup event

KUWAIT, July 10 (KUNA) -- An unstoppable Abdullah Al-rashidi, a Kuwaiti skeet shooter, won the last medal match of the 2014 International Shooting Sport Federation's (ISSF) World Cup in all events in Beijing, China, the last world cup leg of the season.
The 50-year old champion from Kuwait pocketed his eighth world cup medal yesterday. He started shooting back in 1989, and from there on he nailed a series of successes, such as three world championship titles, four world cup golds and six Asian titles. After participating in five Olympic editions (all Games since 1996), he's now looking forward to the next ISSF World Championship in Granada - to be held in September - where he would have a chance to qualify to participate in Rio 2016.
To finish ahead of his competitors, Alrashidi beat Italy's Valerio Luchini in the Gold medal match 16 to 15 hits, after hitting 14 targets in the semi-final, and 122 clays throughout the qualifications.
Head of the Kuwaiti and Arab shooting federation Duaij Al-Otaibi said in a press statement that Al-Rashidi will be duly feted by the federation next Monday for his stellar achievement in Beijing. Al-Rashidi bested two Italians to get the gold, Valerio Luchini who got the silver medal, and Angelo Moscariello who got the bronze. (end) bs.ajs
