Paris, July 10 (KUNA) -- Emirates Airlines of the UAE has taken delivery from Airbus of its 50th A380 "super jumbo" aircraft, building on purchases of the double-decker carrier that began in July 2008, the European manufacturer said on Thursday.
The maiden flight of the plane from Germany to Dubai is being used to transport 41 tonnes of humanitarian supplies which will be stored in a UN depot in the UAE for use by Action against Hunger NGO as part of the UN Humanitarian Response programme.
The A380, which has a list price of over USD 400 million, also has a capacity of between 550 and 850 passengers, depending on the configuration.
Emirates Airlines has a total of 140 of the A380s on order and 136 of these planes have been delivered to airlines worldwide by Airbus.
"Moving forward, we will see quite a ramp up in the delivery programme and by late 2017 we will have around 90 A380s in our fleet to support existing and new A380 routes," Emirates President Sir Tim Clark said in a statement issued by Airbus here. (end) jk.mt
