Israel expelled from intآ’l media body

BRUSSELS, June 30 (KUNA) -- The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has expelled the National Federation of Journalists of Israel from its membership due to the non-payment of membership fees for the last three years.
The decision was taken by the IFJ executive committee which met in Brussels at the June 28-29 weekend, sources in the IFJ told KUNA here on Monday.
The sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, clarified that under IFJ rules, any member which fails to pay their membership fees for three years without justification is expelled.
However, the expulsion of the Israeli media body is not final and it can appeal against the decision at the IFJ world congress that will take place in 2016, noted the sources.
The IFJ also rejected the membership request made by a group of opposition Syrian journalists because they are based outside Syria and not inside the country.
The Brussels-based IFJ represents around 600,000 members in more than 100 countries. It is considered to be the biggest journalistsآ’ organisation in the world. (end) nk.sd
