Kuwait, UK discuss Iraq security

LONDON, June 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah and British Secretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa Hugh Robertson met here on Tuesday on the current security situation in Iraq and its regional reflections.
Speaking to KUNA following the fourth meeting of the joint Steering Group, Al-Jarallah said that he had discussed with the British secretary Iraq's security, stressing joint coordination and consultation about the Iraqi crisis.
He said Kuwait has a security agreement with the UK and other permanent members of the UN Security Council, emphasized that it is important for Kuwait and the UK to work together over what is happening in Iraq, given relevant impacts on Kuwait and other countries in the region.
On the fourth meeting of the Joint Steering Group, he said it had focused on security, military, immigration, visa, investment and trade cooperation.
It also touched upon the positive development of the trade exchange size between Kuwait and the UK since the visit paid by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Britain in 2012, he said.
Trade exchange edged up to three billion pounds in 2013 from just two billion pounds in the previous year, he said, expecting it to exceed four billion pounds next year.
Al-Jarallah hoped that the joint group's meeting would give a strong push to a further promotion and development of bilateral relations. (pickup previous) kd.mwr.mt
