DUBAI, April 27 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti team scored swimming time making it eligible to compete in the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games after taking part in the 4th Dubai International Swimming Championships (23-26 April), an event of the 1st Dubai International Aquatic Championships.
The swimmer who scored the qualifying time in the competitions which wrapped up Saturday night was Waleed Khalid Abderrazzaq with 26 seconds and 28 parts of a second in the 50 meter butterfly category.
Team Captain Ahmad Mohammad told KUNA the overall team score was seven gold medals, seven silver medals, and three bronze medals. The captain praised the players' efforts alongside some 800 peers from 26 countries.
The events of the 1st Dubai International Aquatic Championships, including the 4th Dubai International Swimming Championships, are approved by FINA as a qualification event as FINA "A" and "B" Swimming Qualifying Standard Times for the 2nd Youth Olympic Games, 2014, to be hosted in Nanjing, China.
(FINA), acronym for Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur, is the international governing body of swimming, water polo, diving, synchronized swimming, and open water swimming.
