GCC sports ministers approve first youth games at meeting in Kuwait
KUWAIT, April 22 (KUNA) -- Sports ministers from Gulf Cooperation Council member states adopted several recommendations on cooperation and upcoming event venues, including the first-ever youth games in the UAE, at a meeting in Kuwait on Tuesday.
These recommendations included Kuwait's proposal to adopt comprehensive youth healthcare and the election of Kuwait's Deputy Director General for Youth at the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS), Humoud Flaitah, as the head of the GCC youth committee, Minister of State for Youth Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah told reporters after heading the talks.
Sheikh Salman, also Minister of Information, expressed delight at hosting the talks.
The ministers tasked the executive office of the committee of Olympic and sports chiefs and the President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa to form a GCC legal sports authority.
The executive office was also tasked with preparing a comprehensive review of guidelines and regulations for granting citizenship to athletes, in line with the Olympic Charter and international sports federation charters.
An initiative by the United Arab Emirates to hold a GCC youth games for the first time in 2015 and the decision to hold the Second GCC Youth Games in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, were also approved during the talks. (end) bsu.sd
