Kuwait bids farewell to generous and loyal son, Sheikh Sabah Al-Nasser

KUWAIT, April 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwait lost a noble and loyal man who gave his all for the sake of taking his nation to new heights. Sheikh Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, ex-Undersecretary for the Ministry of Defence, passed away at the age of 64 taking with him a legacy glittered with achievements in the service of his nation.
Having recorded numerous accolades on the military and scientific scales, he will also be remembered as a man of great patriotism, sacrifice and duty.
Born in 1950, and after completing secondary education locally he graduated overseas with a degree in architectural engineering from the University of Washington.
After graduating, Sheikh Sabah began his life-long journey of accomplishment, first, as an architect at the Municipal Council in 1976.
Two years later he shifted to a new chapter in his life at the Ministry of Defence, precisely the Military Installations Sector, where his efforts were focused on developing the role of the department, which at the time, had just been formed.
It was due to these efforts that he was promoted to assistant undersecretary of the sector in 1988, and undersecretary of the whole ministry another 10 years later.
Sheikh Sabah was a well-known researcher and inventor, having listed 12 patents locally and another seven internationally - across the United States and Europe.
He received first place at the International Exhibition of Inventions in the Middle East for his design of a football referee's stopwatch, the most prominent of several other inventions on the civilian as well as military fronts.
His contributions to youth in Kuwait are also distinguished, being the mastermind behind the founding of what is known as the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, a centre dedicated to promoting and sponsoring the work of young local inventors and scientists.
During the 1990-91 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, he contributed greatly to the popular resistance movement which sprung up during that time.
Answering the call of duty to his nation at one of the toughest times in its modern history, he took it upon himself to deliver financial and food relief to Kuwaiti families and POWs, and supervised the civil disobedience movement of local supermarkets, petrol stations and hospitals throughout the country.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah will forever be remembered as a man who symbolizes the unity and closeness of the Kuwaiti people. May he rest in peace and be gifted for all the generosity he has portrayed during a productive lifetime. (end) gh.sd
