Kuwait receives further war compensations -- minister

KUWAIT, April 16 (KUNA) -- The National Assembly's regular follow-up session on Wednesday was lifted due to lack of a quorum. Meanwhile, a senior government official declared receiving further war compensations.
The head of the session, MP Yaacoub Al-Sanea, adjourned voting on a bill for environmental protection due to the lack of a quorum at Abdullah Al-Salem Hall.
For his part, Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs, Dr. Ali Al-Omair, said during the debate on the bill that the Government had received from the United Nations up to USD 2.9 billion worth of compensations for damage inflicted to the environment during the 1990 Iraqi aggression on the country.
The paid sum would be invested for tackling environmental problems, he said. (end) kt.rk
