Inter-GCC commercial cooperation progressing -- official

KUWAIT, April 16 (KUNA) -- GCC states have made headways on path OF commercial cooperation that resulted in crucial resolutions covering various sectors of the Gulf economies, said Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Abdulaziz Al-Khaldi.
Al-Khaldi, in a statement after conclusion of the 40th meeting of GCC undersecretaries of commerce, said he and the other participants in the meeting agreed on a number of draft resolutions that would be adopted during a ministerial meeting of the GCC Commercial Cooperation Committee, due in May.
Today's meeting addressed inter-GCC trade exchanges, ideas to tackle obstacles in this domain and preparations for the GCC joint exhibition, due in the UAE. The talks also dealt with upgrading the GCC copy-right development center, he said, and the conferees agreed on inaugurating it during the GCC commerce ministerial meeting scheduled in May.
Moreover, they agreed on launching the GCC electronic website for consumer protection, said Al-Khaldi. "They also examined the unified consumer protection law that would be enforced in all GCC states in the near future," he added.
Al-Khaldi called for treating all GCC citizens and businessmen equally in commercial transactions.
Abdullah Bin Jumaa Al-Shalbi, the assistant secretary general for economic affairs, indicated that the participants in the meeting discussed the GCC trademarks law. The discussions also dealt with consumer protection, commercial fraud and some joint laws.
The GCC commercial cooperation committee decided, in 2012, to hold four regular meetings per year. (end) smr.rk
