KUWAIT, April 15 (KUNA) -- The Minister of Oil and State Minister of Parliament Affairs Ali Al-Omair Tuesday refuted all claims that the government was threatening MPs it would dissolve parliament, should they vote in favor of proposed hikes in the dependent children and rent allowances.
In response to remarks by MPs during today's session, the minister added, "we cannot speak of something not up to us to decide in the first place. Dissolution is a matter to be decided by His Highness the Amir." More often than not, he went on "the government presents His Highness with a 'non-cooperation' motion against the NA, but he decides to dissolve cabinet rather than parliament.
"We urge the MPs to show more cooperation in harmony with their responsibilities as stated in law, Constitution, and NA Standing Order in the best interest of the homeland and citizens," he remarked, reiterating that the government was not making "any" threats. (end) kt.wsa
