KUWAIT, April 15 (KUNA) -- The Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanem turned Tuesday's session to "Closed-door" mode upon a request from the government, as MPs and cabinet representatives are to discuss "rumors and controversies" regarding an alleged "recording".
Making the request, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said, "Regrettably, there has been much talk and confusion regarding the 'recording', and I believe it is right that Members of Parliament be presented with the information I possess." He requested the session resume, closed-door, to enable him to divulge his information.
The Speaker for his part said he had received a similar request from MPs regarding the said recording. The MPs invoked article 69 of the NA Standing Order and stated they intend to discuss "the media reports on contents of the recording, its source, its full and actual content, and whether it revealed anything that stands to jeopardize national security and stability." The MPs stressed that "this is a matter which concerns all Kuwaiti citizen, and is no 'private matter'." Last week, the General Prosecution ordered all investigations relating to this issue be conducted in utmost secrecy and that no statements be given to any media or news outlet.
The recording is said to incriminate a number of figures and reveal a plot to overthrow the regime and to challenge the rights and competencies of His Highness the Amir. (end) kt.wsa
