Lebanon Tribunal appoints new investigator on contempt of court charges

BRUSSELS, April 10 (KUNA) -- The Registrar of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, Daryl Mundis, Thursday announced the appointment of Kenneth Scott as the new investigator to deal with the contempt charges currently before the STL.
Scott, a Harvard graduate, has extensive experience in international law, having served at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia for over ten years, said the STL in a statement.
Scott replaces the previous investigator Stephane Bourgon assigned to investigate the allegations of contempt made last year. The STL announced on 29 April, 2013, that it will appoint a special investigator to probe three incidents which could potentially be considered interference with the administration of justice through publication of alleged witness identities. These incidents have been deemed confidential by judge David Baragwanath for the time being. The scope and timeline of the investigation will be decided at a later date, it said.
The STL,based outside the Hague, is an international court with the mandate to hold trials for the people accused of carrying out the attack of 14 February 2005 which killed 22 people, including the former prime minister of Lebanon, Rafiq Hariri, and injured many others. (end) nk.nfm
