US-Saudi summit to address issues of joint interest

KUWAIT, March 28 (KUNA) -- US President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia later on Friday for top-level talks on various issues of joint concern at the regional and international levels.
Obama is scheduled to hold talks with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz, dealing with the Saudi-US "long-term partnership" in political, economic and security sectors as well as combating terrorism.
The American-Saudi summit is expected to address the Middle East peace process, the Syrian crisis and common concerns regarding the Iranian nuclear file.
Saudi Arabia and the United States established diplomatic relations on November 7, 1933, when the two sides signed a relevant accord, which encompassed commercial and maritime cooperation. Following years saw continuous development of these close relations and mutual cooperation.

-- Following is list of visits by top leaders to the two countries: -- February 14, 1945: Founder of the Saudi Kingdom, King Abdullah-Aziz Bin Abdul-Rahman Al-Saud and US President Franklin Roosevelt met aboard the warship Quincy in the Suez Canal.
-- January 30, 1957: Saudi Monarch Saud Bin Abdul-Aziz held a meeting with US President Dwight D. Eisenhower at the White House. It was the first visit by a Saudi King to the United States of America.
-- February 13, 1962: Saudi King Saud Bin Abdul-Aziz held a meeting with US President John Kennedy in the US capital, Washington.
-- June 21, 1966: King Faisal Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud met US President Lyndon Johnson in Washington.
-- March 27, 1971: King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud held a meeting with US President Richard Nixon in Washington.
-- January 3, 1978: King Khaled Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud met with US President Jimmy Carter during the latter's visit to Saudi Arabia in the capital, Riyadh.
-- February, 1985: King Fahad Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud, during his first visit to the US since being proclaimed the Monarch of the Kingdom, met with US President Ronald Reagan at the White House.
-- November 21, 1985: King Fahad met with US President (senior) George Bush in the Kingdom. Talks between the two sides dealt with the flagrant Iraqi aggression on the State of Kuwait.
-- October 28, 1994: King Fahad met with the US president Clinton at Hafr Al-Baten region.
-- January, 2008: King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz met with US President George W. Bush at the Monarch farm in Al-Janadriyah.
-- In May the same year: King Abdullah held another meeting with Bush at the same venue.
-- November 2008: King Abdullah met with US President George W. Bush in Washington.
-- April 2, 2009: King Abdullah met with US President Barack Obama in London.
-- January the same year: the two leaders met against at the King's farm.
