KUWAIT, March 23 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of
Sciences (KFAS) announced on Sunday the names of 11 winners of its Kuwait
Prize and the Scientific Production Prize for 2013.
Four researchers won the 2013 Kuwait Prize in three areas; Basic Sciences,
won by Dr. Habib Amari - a Tunisian, Applied Sciences, won by Dr. Najib Nassar
- an Egyptian, and Arabic and Islamic Scientific Heritage, won equally by Dr.
Amer Al-Najar of Egypt too, and Dr. Lutefallah Qarie - a Saudi, KFAS said in a
press statement.
Seven researchers, all Kuwaitis, won the 2013 Scientific Production Prize
in six areas; Physical Sciences and Mathematics, won equally by Dr. Ali
BoMejdad and Dr. Eman Al-Shammas, Engineering Sciences, won by Dr. Ahmad
Al-Kanderi, Biological Sciences, won by Dr. Mohammad Al-Bahouh, Medical
Sciences, won by Dr. Suad Al-Fadhli, Social Sciences and Humanities, won by
Dr. Ali Taqi, and Administration and Economics Sciences, won by Dr. Abdullah
Al-Obaidan.
Established in 1979, the Kuwait Prize comes as a fulfillment of KFAS'
objectives in supporting scientific research and encouraging scholars and
researchers in Kuwait and all other Arab countries.
The Scientific Production Prize was established in response to an
initiative of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait to honor
distinguished Kuwaitis holding a doctorate degree in various fields of
knowledge. The Prize is intended to encourage the elite of the Kuwaiti
scientific community to further pursue research for the benefit of the
