JEDDAH, March 17 (KUNA) -- The second conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) ministers of youth and sport kicked off on Monday under the auspices of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and with the participation of around 44 OIC member countries.
Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Hmoud Al-Sabah is heading an official delegation to the conference.
In the opening ceremony, King Abdullah speech was delivered on his behalf by the President of Youth Welfare in Saudi Arabia, President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahad.
Bin Fahad said that participants in the ministerial meeting are due to discuss important topics related to the most vital part dear to our hearts, influential, and inspiring part of our future which is the youth.
Bin Fahad stressed that "young people are an invaluable asset to every nation," adding that "the growing numbers of young people in the Muslim world is a blessing that must be taken care of, noting that an investment in these young people is the shortest way to achieve goals and objectives of the overall development and sustainability in any country.
The speaker asserted on the importance of taking care of the category of young people and prepare them scientifically, psychologically, and physically to meet the requirements of the present and future challenges.
Bin Fahad hoped the conference would adopt resolutions that would contribute directly to youth in Islamic countries, enable them to be responsible towards their religion and their homeland and to be the best ambassadors representing their countries abroad.
For his part, OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani highlighted in his speech, a set of challenges facing young people in the Muslim world, particularly the environments that are filled with sectarian division, conflicts, and the rejection of others in addition to extremism.
Madani explained that young people in the Muslim world are frustrated and despaired due to the huge challenges in the region, referring to the oppression of young Palestinians, Central Africa ethnic cleansing, as well as the eradication of identity faced by young Muslims in Myanmar.
