Bus-truck crash kills 21 Egyptians in Suez governorate

CAIRO, March 11 (KUNA) -- At least 21 people were killed and 24 others were injured when a bus full off passengers collided with a truck on the Suez-Ain Mousa road early Tuesday.
The state news agency (MENA) reported that ambulances and emergency teams rushed to the scene in the Eastern Suez Governorate and bodies of the dead and injured people were taken to nearby hospitals.
It pointed out that over 21 bus passengers were killed on the spot and 24 others were injured.
A medical source at Suez Hospital expected a rise in the death toll as nearly 10 of the wounded people are in critical condition.
Road accidents are common in Egypt due to badly maintained roads and poor enforcement of traffic laws.
Egyptians have long complained that the government has failed to deal with chronic transport problems, with both roads and train lines poorly maintained.
According to a 2012 World Health Organization report, road accidents kill about 12,000 people each year in Egypt. (end) rg.ibi KUNA 111039 Mar 14NNNN
