ROME, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Board Chairman and Director General of Kuwait's Public Authority for Agricultre Affairs and Fish Resources, Jassem Al-Bader, called Thursday on the importance of achieving regional food security, a key pillar of Kuwait's policy.
Al-Bader, addressing the Ministerial Meeting of Near East Region Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), wished the meeting would meet aspirations of "our countries and peoples." Al-Bader, who thanked FAO for the organization of the conference, said Kuwait's agriculture and food policy was in harmony with FAO's objectives to ultimately achieve food security at the national level.
Kuwait, he added, "is looking forward for the unification of all efforts to achieve this objective" coupled with FAO's expertise to supporting sustainable agriculture, addressing of poverty and hunger, as well as developing human resources.
Al-Bader said Kuwait believed in the importance of tackling challenges related to food security, sustainable development, difficult climate, malnutrition and shortage of natural resources.
He briefed conferees about Kuwait's experience in the sustainable agricultural development and food security, which were realized through attraction of private sector's investments, tax incentives and subsidiaries.
The government of Kuwait, added Al-Bader, was also allocating farm lands for investors and companies for plantation, and breeding of livestock and fish.
Kuwait, he said, was also using the latest technologies to recycle water to be used for irrigation.
Al-Bader said Kuwait was keen on further cementing its relations with FAO, which would open a liaison office at the headquarters of the public authority in the coming months.
This office, he said, would provide Kuwait with technical and technological expertise to achieve sustainable development for agriculture and food sectors, as well as training Kuwaitis. (end) mn.bs KUNA 272053 Feb 14NNNN
