700 people evacuated from Yarmouk camp in Syria on humanitarian grounds

DAMASCUS, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- A Palestinian official announced on Wednesday that around 700 people were evacuated on humanitaria grounds from Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees near Syrian capital.
The evacuation was conducted in line with a peaceful popular initiative to solve crisis in the camp and keep it away from the ongoing conflict in Syria, Anwar Abdulhadi, Head of the political department of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said in a press statement, indicating that at the same time that distribution of food aid resumed today to needy refugees inside the camp.
Over 7,000 food baskets were distributed inside the camp, and around 4,000 people were evacuated on humanitarian grounds since the launch of relief camp to this date, Abdulhadi said.
He pointed out that 400 food packages were distributed today and 700 people, including 50 students, were evacuated on humanitarian grounds, and to enable the students continue their education at Syrian universities in cooperation with Syrian and Palestinian red crescent and the medical department of PLO.
He also pointed out the facilitations provided by the Syrian government for aiding the Palestinian people, as well as the efforts exerted in delivering food inside Yarmouk camp in cooperation with the 14 Palestinian factions, the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugee Affairs (GAPAR), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
