BRUSSELS, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen Saturday called for a "genuine strategic partnership" between NATO and Russia.
"I am convinced that the vision that we agreed in 2010 in (NATO summit) Lisbon remains the right one: a true strategic partnership between NATO and Russia. But I am concerned that in key areas, we remain too far apart," he said in addressing the 50th Munich Security Conference today.
The NATO chief said he gets concerned when he hears "talk of deploying offensive systems such as fighter detachments to Belarus, Iskander missiles to Kaliningrad, or more military forces to the Arctic." "I get concerned when I hear our missile defence system consistently - and falsely - described as offensive by Russia," he noted.
"Nobody wants to return to the dividing lines and hostility of the past, so let's stop using the words and ways of the past and move forwards," he added. (end) nk.ibi KUNA 020014 Feb 14NNNN
