ABU DHABI, Dec 22 (KUNA) -- UAE said that it's donating USD 10 million on
Sunday in humanitarian aid for tens of thousands of people affected by the
floods that caused havoc in Malaysia recently.
UAE news agency (WAM) quoted a statement as saying "UAE President Sheikh
Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has ordered the commitment of AED 36.6 million
(USD 10 million) in humanitarian aid for tens of thousands of Malaysian
affected by the floods.
The statement noted the aid will help more than 20,000 Malaysian families
in Kelantan state and in Pekan, in Pahang state, where floods swept several
residential areas, wreaking wide destruction to properties.
UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA), which will implement the initiative,
will also repair more than 20,000 damaged households and provide them with
basic materials procured from the Malaysian domestic markets.
According to the statement, the UAE's initiative will enable more than 100,
000 Malaysians to return home and to begin working to restore their lives to
normal. (end)
