ROME, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti official stressed here Wednesday that Kuwait has made significant progress in meeting quarter of the needs of the local market of food, thanks to its successful policies towards the achievement of food security and the role of family farms.
Permanent delegate of the State of Kuwait and Head of the Near East Group at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Yusuf Al-Juhail told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that he co-chaired the Arab Group in the regional dialogue on the Arab farming family which was organized by the regional office in Tunisia this week to mark the start of the "International Year of Family Farming 2014" and its important role in global food security.
The participation of the State of Kuwait for the first time in this regional dialogue has allowed her the opportunity to review her experience as a model of family farms in the Gulf region and the role of these farms in support of food security, and the policy of the state through the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources towards the Kuwaiti farmers and producers.
He pointed out that the symposium that was organized by the Regional Office for the Near East, headed by Kuwait focused on three themes, namely the role of family agriculture and its contributions to sustainable rural development in the Arab countries, the political sphere, programs and strategies including research to support the Arab family agriculture.
