BRUSSELS, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- The European Union Saturday deplored the
confiscation of humanitarian assistance carried out by Israeli security forces
yesterday in the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khirbet Al-Makhul.
EU representatives have already contacted the Israeli authorities to demand
an explanation and expressed their concern at the incident, noted a joint
statement by the spokespersons of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and
EU Commissioner for humanitarian aid Kristalina Georgieva.
"The EU underlines the importance of unimpeded delivery of humanitarian
assistance and the applicability of international humanitarian law in the
occupied Palestinian territory," added the statement.
European diplomats yesterday said they were manhandled and illegally
prevented from delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians by Israeli
soldiers. (end)
