BRUSSELS, July 20 (KUNA) -- The Islamic Cultural Centre in Brussels
Saturday organised a competition on the Holy Quran for youngsters on the
occasion of the fasting month of Ramadhan.
The Director of the Centre, Jamal Saleh Mominah, told KUNA that the aim of
the competition is to encourage Muslim children and youth in Belgium to read,
memorize and practice the noble teachings of the Quran.
Around 40 children are participating in the one-day event and the prize for
the winners will be a visit to Mecca for pilgrimage which will be sponsored by
the Centre.
An estimated 500,000 Muslims mainly from Morocco and Turkey live in
Belgium. There are an estimated 300 mosques in the country and observers say
most of them are full at the special congregational night prayers, called
Tarawih, during Ramadhan. (end)
