DUBLIN, July 15 (KUNA) -- Kuwait government-funded scholarships to Ireland
will now expand to include many more majors, said head of the Kuwait Cultural
Office in Ireland. Kuwait already offers its eligible nationals scholarships
to Ireland in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
For the 2013/14 academic year, electrical engineering, mechanical
engineering, production and design engineering, accounting, business studies,
finance, e-commerce, computer science, media, film studies, management
information systems and human resources management will be added to the
equation.
Also, the door was opened recently for nursing scholarships to Ireland, as
Kuwait seeks to create an able and highly-efficient national nursing
workforce, added Walid Shuaib.
Meanwhile, after discussions with several Irish universities, his office
had managed to secure some 25 seats for the study of pharmacy, some five seats
for dentistry at Cork University, two seats for medicine at Galway University,
some 45 seats for medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons and three seats
for medicine at the University of Dublin.
Competition for seats at well-reputed Irish universities is difficult for
Irishmen and Europeans let alone foreigners, and the notion that Irish
educational facilities offer foreign parties cheaper tuition fees is false, he
said.
However, applicants need not have to complete Irish secondary school
requirements to qualify for study in Ireland anymore, he noted.
Upon arrival in the country, the office proceeds to provide Kuwaitis with a
file, including all financial and educational needs, and an academic
supervisor, whose role is to assess all the needs of the student, in addition
to health insurance. (end)
