KUWAIT, April 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Radio is to air a special programme dedicated to the first women's sports league for basketball, table tennis and athletics, due to be held on May 9.
The programme will provide live in-depth studio analysis of the games, the radio's sports programmes inspector Hamid Abdullah told KUNA.
The programme will also include interviews with the current and former female athletes, the event's organizers, referees and sports officials.
The move is aimed at shedding light on the dynamic women's sports movement in the country, and steps being taken on the local front to encourage these activities.
Abdullah hailed the Kuwait Women's Sports Association for their efforts in organizing the event, in addition to facilitating the entry of spectators into the competition's various stadia.
He also hailed the Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah for his efforts aimed at encouraging sports in the country.
Kuwait Radio has launched several programmes dedicated to sports in the country, as well as others held regionally and internationally, he noted.
For her part, President of the Kuwait Association for Women's Sports Sheikha Naeema Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah commended "the marvelous initiative", Kuwait Radio will be undertaking.
She regarded the move as further encouragement for women to head to sports and for events dedicated to females to thrive and develop in the country. (end) js.sd KUNA 271619 Apr 13NNNN
