Japan to strike nuclear deals with UAE, Turkey

TOKYO, April 25 (KUNA) -- The Japanese government is set to conclude agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey to transfer its nuclear power technology, public broadcaster NHK reported Thursday.
Tokyo is expected to sign nuclear cooperation pacts with the two countries during Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to the Middle Eastern region from late April, the report said. The nuclear cooperation deals will be the first to be concluded since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant in March 2011. Japan and the UAE reached a deal after coordinating terms on technological cooperation, while a consortium of Japanese and French firms are expected to jointly receive an order to construct a nuclear power plant in Turkey, according to the report. Abe is scheduled to visit Russia and Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Turkey between April 28 and May 4.
On Wednesday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Japan's nuclear technology is at the world's highest levels of safety and that it needs to be shared with other countries, while taking into account their unique situations and needs. (end) mk.ajs KUNA 251825 Apr 13NNNN
