Egypt opposed to foreign military intervention in Syria - Morsi

DOHA, March 26 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi reiterated on Tuesday opposition to any outside military interference to solve the Syrian crisis.
"The Syrian people are able to emerge out of this ordeal victorious, and will not be broken," President Morsi said in an address to the 24th Arab summit here.
"We all agree on the need to reach an appropriate solution that helps Syria avoid the horrors and risks of continued conflict which does not portend only the loss of more lives of innocent people, but also threatens the territorial integrity of Syria," Morsi said He recalled that Egypt had called for a political process leading to the transfer of power in Syria in a way preserving its territory and safeguarding its institutions. President Morsi stressed the need to complete the Palestinian reconciliation process, noting it is the cornerstone to unify Palestinian ranks, and an essential foundation to attract more international support for the just cause of the Palestinians.
He called for lifting the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip and confronting the illegitimate Jewish settlement expansions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
"Despite the gains the Palestinians have achieved on the international scene, the international mechanisms were still unable to force on the ground a solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, " he regretted.
On the Sudan-South Sudan relations, President Morsi welcomed the signing by the two neighbors of a number of agreements in the field of oil exports, as well as the security arrangements they have reached.
He also lauded the peace agreement reached with the help of Qatar mediation in Darfur, and expressed his country's support for the Somali government under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud. (end) mi.nnd.gb KUNA 262243 Mar 13NNNN
