Kuwait plays prominent role in clearing misconceptions about Islam -- Awqaf chief

JEDDAH, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- The state of Kuwait plays a prominent role in correcting the faulty image of Islam and defending many Islamic causes, General Secretariat of Awqaf chief noted, on Monday, at an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) event.
Representing Kuwait at an OIC open meeting, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of Awqaf Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Jarallah Al-Kharafi told KUNA that the state of Kuwait has always strived to familiarize international communities with Islam and to highlight the role of Muslims and how they affected the progression of history in many fields.
He noted that His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has always encouraged more activities of Dawah, the proselytizing of Islam, through media domains. He also pushed for an unlimited support to all Islamic organizations and institutions. The aim of this support is to enhance the cooperation and open dialogue amongst different nations away from any disintegration, dispute or extremism.
Societal participation also plays a major role in removing any misconception about Islam and engaging in many humanitarian and developmental activities in many Islamic countries, Dr. Al-Kharafi added.
He also shed light on the General Secretariat of Awqaf's support to efforts done by charity funds, Kuwait's Zakat House, International Islamic Charitable Organization, Kuwait Red Crescent Society and Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development.
The OIC open meeting, which will be held later today, Al-Kharafi said that he will suggest to the assembly setting up a fund for defending Islam and its sanctity in order to clear any misconceptions about this great religion. (end) yms.nfm KUNA 251223 Feb 13NNNN
