(With photos) KUWAIT, Nov 24 (KUNA) -- The Supervisor for improving nutrition in society at the Health Ministry Dr. Mona Al-Sumaei was awarded on Saturday for excellence in the field of promoting natural breastfeeding in Arab countries, amid the third regional breastfeeding conference held in Dubai.
"The award came in recognition for Kuwait's efforts in supporting and promoting natural breastfeeding and to protect babies from artificial feeding, which is unsafe to baby's health," Al-Sumaei told KUNA.
The Kuwaiti official added that the International Baby Food Action Network, (IBFAN) in Arab world held a conference in Dubai to elect board of directors and presidency, in which Dr. Al-Sumaei and Dr. Iman Al-Yafaei was nominated as board of directors representing the GCC.
Al-Sumaei revealed that since 1997 Kuwait launched programs to encourage natural breastfeeding, which started with the formation of the Higher Ministerial Committee, to encourage and support breastfeeding.
Kuwait is among the first countries to present reports and statistics on programs to promote breastfeeding, she noted. (end) fz.tb.hs KUNA 241726 Nov 12NNNN
