BAGHDAD, Oct 31 (KUNA) -- The Special Representative of the United Nations
Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler welcomed Wednesday Iraq's
announcement on holding municipal elections on April 20.
Kobler said that the elections will pave the way for the election of the
provincial councils.
He also urged that civil society organizations to encourage and highlight
the participation of all Iraqis, particularly women, in the coming elections.
Kobler has expressed the UN Mission in Iraq's commitment to support the
Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC).
Iraq announced Tuesday that the municipal elections will be held on April
20 nationwide. (end)
