Bomb severely wounds woman in S. Thailand insurgency

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- A woman was seriously injured on Thursday by a bomb explosion at a rubber plantation in Narathiwat province, south of Thailand where an ongoing insurgency is brewing.
The woman and her husband were at the rubber plantation when she stepped on a bomb planted at the foot of a rubber tree, that resulted in loosing her left leg, the Bangkok Post newspaper quoted local police.
She was rushed to Narathiwat Hospital. Her husband was away from the scene by eight meters, but was not injured, it added.
Meanwhile, south Thailand has witnessed since 2004, violent acts, explosions that have resulted in killing more than 5,000 people and wounding over 8,400 in three provinces. (end) aab.hs KUNA 061556 Sep 12NNNN
