Status of Jerusalem "priority" at Makkah summit -- Arab League

CAIRO, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- The Makkah summit will be discussing the status of Jerusalem as one of the top items of its agenda, said Assistant Undersecretary for Palestinian and Arab occupied land affairs Mohammad Sabieh here Monday.
The official said in a press conference that Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby would be partaking in the Makkah Summit to be held tomorrow in Saudi Arabia, adding that the issues connected to the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem would be addressed during the paramount meeting.
"Israelis are trying to wipe out Palestinian and Muslim heritage in Jerusalem by desecrating the Aqsa Mosque in their plans to build their alleged temple," said the Arab League official, stressing that it was important not to allow Israel to further the suffering of Palestinians in Jerusalem.
Around 80 percent of Palestinians in the city could be considered poor due to the irrational Israeli policies which required a strong stance on part of the summit to halt such acts, said Sabieh, noting that it was baffling that no action was taken to implement the resolution of the Arab Summit held in Sirte; Libya, in 2010 which allocated a sum of USD 500 million to support Jerusalem.
Sabieh also noted that the Palestinian delegation, lead by President Mahmoud Abbas, would be taking part in the summit, adding that the delegation would offer its insight to how to better help protect religious and cultural sites in Jerusalem. (end) zab.gta KUNA 131206 Aug 12NNNN
