NEW DELHI, Aug 3 (KUNA)-- Indian security forces gunned down a top militant
in northern state of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, reported the Press Trust of
India (PTI).
Identified as Abu Hanzullah, a top militant commander of the banned
militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was killed in an encounter with
security forces in a village in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
Hanzullah was said to be one of the top LeT commanders active in Kashmir,
and involved in several attacks on civilians and security forces in north
Kashmir over past several years.
According to the report, security personnel and local policemen launched an
operation following information about Hanzullah's presence there. The militant
opened fired as he was trapped inside a house.
The security forces retaliated, triggering off a gun-battle and eliminating
the militant. (end)
